NOMINATE YOUR STATE SCHOOL ICONS

Some of the UK’s best success stories were #MadeInStateSchool. We’re putting red plaques on state schools to show our country’s state school proud children, students and professionals that they have just as much right to achieve. And we want you to nominate who gets one.

Nominate someone from your community who’s made it big - be it in the arts, sport, business, activism, or something we’ve not even thought of.

How it works:

  1. Complete our short nomination form below

  2. Our Made in State School committee will review every nomination

  3. If selected, we'll get in touch and arrange for a plaque to be installed at your school for future generations to look up to

 FAQs

  • Any state secondary school or sixth form college in the UK can nominate themselves and an alumni to get a plaque.

  • We want to celebrate recognisable role models to state educated young people, whether that’s in business, politics, the arts or something we haven’t even thought of. They don’t have to be celebrities - we would love to hear about community champions, entrepreneurs,  academics, activists and more doing amazing work behind the scenes. The campaign is Made in State School - so naturally, we would like recipients to be state educated.

What’s important is that they’re a role model for pupils. We’d particularly like to hear about alumni who you think are likely to visit the schools and speak with pupils when the plaques are installed to amplify the impact of the moment.

  • You don’t - but if your nomination is successful, we will contact them to let them know their plaque is going up. If they decline, we will have to respect this choice.

  • Nope - we welcome submissions from pupils and anyone in the community who thinks there’s someone from their local school who deserves a plaque.

  • We’ll be appointing a panel of judges to review the applications periodically. Priority will be based on scale of achievement, but just because your school doesn’t get a plaque in the first rounds, doesn’t mean it won’t. We want this to be an enduring project, and as many schools as possible to get one.

  • Wonderful! We’d dream of schools having huge walls of fame or plaques on every building to recognise their alumni. You’re welcome to submit multiple nominations - as we roll out the plaques, we would expect to start with one plaque per school to spread out the visibility of state school success. But we won’t stop there, trust us.
